The United Kingdom is still technically united, as it consists of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. However, there have been growing tensions and calls for independence in Scotland and Northern Ireland in recent years. The Brexit vote also highlighted divisions within the UK, with Scotland and Northern Ireland voting to remain in the EU while England and Wales voted to leave. The complex web of alliances, militarism, nationalism, and other factors that led to the outbreak of the First World War were deeply rooted in the political landscape of the time. The United Nations' focus on diplomacy, peacekeeping, and conflict resolution may have helped to mitigate some of the tensions that led to the war, but it is unlikely that it could have entirely prevented such a large-scale conflict. **
